Metaphor 1: Two Feet

A myriad of metaphors has captured Karen's imagination these past three years. They often come into play in conversation, but lately the impulse has risen to begin sharing them in writing too. We'll blog them bit by bit. Here’s the first one . . .

Two Feet into the Kingdom Journey

Our natural self walks with both feet in the world. When we choose to follow Christ, we place our first foot into the kingdom. Most of our Christian life is then spent walking with one foot in the world and one foot in the kingdom. No wonder Paul’s notorious struggle (Rom 7:15) resonates with each of us. Getting that first foot into the kingdom is the easy part. Next comes our life-long struggle to draw in the second foot. Theologians call that part “sanctification.” It’s a daily battle, filled with trial and temptation, and requires constant prayer. We catch a glimpse of our two feet in the kingdom during those “mountain top experiences.” But our quest is to experience it as our way of life. May we win our battles and walk with both of our feet in the Kingdom! Amen.
