"I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
that You did hide these things from the wise and intelligent
and did reveal them to babes"
(Matt 11:25)
At dinner recently, Andrew announced, "God's telling me what God and Jesus look like!" "Really?" "Yeah, you want me to draw them?" "Sure! Go, ahead!" Andrew quickly produced two pictures. The first one was of Jesus wearing a light blue shepherd's cloth to the knees, a belt at the waist, and a halo -- nothing that couldn't have come out of Sunday School pictures. The next picture was of God and it was more interesting (posted).
So Karen put Andrew to the test. "Ask God what the Holy Spirit looks like." In less than a minute, he grinned and said, "He's already showing me!" "All right!" I chuckled, "We've got to see this! Go ahead and draw!" Now we were really intrigued. What was our 6 1/2 year old going to draw for the Holy Spirit?! What he produced sure didn't look like it came from Sunday School. Squiggly, colorful lines pervaded this abstract "portrait" complete with symbols: fish, crosses and a camel.
Andrew's pictures were getting increasingly more interesting, with the last one the most remarkable of all. "Now God's telling me what heaven looks like!" Andrew announced excitedly a few minutes later. What he produced blew our minds. It surely did not come from Sunday school (or us -- we promise you!), but the angels with swords is more biblical than most of us realize (Gen 3:24) and the banner reading, "Holy Holy Holy" stopped us from breathing. "Andrew, had anyone ever told you angels sing, 'Holy, Holy, Holy' in heaven?" "No," he said matter-of-factly, "God just told me. He told me to write 'Holy Holy Holy' in heaven."
Out of the mouth of babes . . .
